This droll, language-slinging review of/essay on Maximum Gaga by Lara Glenum. I've been digging on this book and you should, too. I feel like the reviewer, Will Cordeiro, got into the language of the book in writing this, which makes it an entertaining read (I imagine) even if you haven't read the book.
On a side note, I don't necessarily think the title was an homage to Lady Gaga (the timing would have been too close, unless Glenum was following Gaga's work pre-The Fame, which of course is possible); still, it certainly doesn't hurt Glenum's book or writing that Gaga exploded when she did.
Speaking of Gaga, a short while back Gina Abelkop had a piece in Gaga Stigmata, the LG-only-themed online journal. The piece delves into the relationship between Kate Bush's "The Big Sky" and LG's "Dance in the Dark."
And happy Friday.

tomorrow: juvenilia, read-in
GUYS! Purple Lake of Desolation is tomorrow! You should come because it's going to be so ridiculous and mortifying that I might just explode a little (and I'm only speaking for myself!). Things get rolling around 7 and we'll be ON TIME so BE ON TIME. You know how Pete's is. (Image credit: Rohin)You know what else is tomorrow? The We Will No Be Shushed library 24-hour reading to protest budget cuts. I'm reading, along with Eve Bates, Martin Rock, and Jarrod Shanahan, over on the steps of Brooklyn's Central library starting at 5:15AM on Sunday morning. You should attend some of these readings because you should be concerned about budget cuts for Brooklyn's already ravaged library system.
That's all.
